Facilities

Hawker School site has the administration and executive offices and K-6 classrooms located in the main school building on Erldunda Circuit.  Our preschool is located in a purpose built and separately fenced area beside the main building.

Hawker School has large open plan units, single classrooms, ‘wet’ areas and media rooms.  All teaching spaces have access to a bank of networked computers and interactive white boards.

Our library is the hub of the school providing students with opportunities to research on the internet, borrow books, engage in a strategic game of chess or use an interactive white board.  Parents are also able to borrow from our resource centre.

Hawker is renowned for its environment centre. This is a central courtyard with features such as worm farms, vegetable gardens, fish ponds and garden ornaments straight from the African jungles.  The courtyard is an excellent setting for our students to learn about our environment.  Hawker School was the first ACT government school to become a WASTE WISE school.

The school hall is used for drama, music, games, assemblies and performances.  Our multipurpose area is situated outside the canteen and is also used for after school care.

Our school grounds are spacious and provide a variety of areas for students to play.  Our P&C has contributed greatly to the outdoor equipment that is suitable for all students.

We have three areas of play equipment.  One shade structured area caters for students in K-3 and another caters for students in years 3-6.  A climbing play structure is utilised by all children across the school and we also have an authentic cricket pitch.  We have a large all weather shelter shed that serves as an outdoor meeting place for the whole school as well as a shaded recreational area.

In 2011 the P&C successfully installed a full size multi purpose sport court.  This new addition is beside the newly landscaped hill to provide another outdoor learning and recreation area.
