My child is absent from school. How do I advise this?
For all absences please email or call the school to advise (02) 6142 2660.
Do you have supervised duty before and after school?
Kindergarten - Year 6 have supervised duty for 10 minutes in the morning, starting at 8.50am. Students are not to play on any equipment during this time.
There is no supervised duty after school.
The school day is 9am - 3pm
What time is lunch and recess?
Recess:10.40am - 11.10am
Lunch: 12.40pm - 1.30pm (including a 10min supervised eating time - 12.40pm - 12.50pm)
Second half lunch bell 1.10pm
My child has an appointment or needs to be collected, what do I do?
If you have an appointment in the morning or during the day, you can call (02) 6142 2660 or email the school. Please come to the front office on arrival/departure so we can sign your child in/out.
Planned Student Absence
If you have a planned absence please call or email the front office.
My child requires medication at school for a short period of time, what do I do?
Please complete the medication authorisation and administration form and drop this off or email it to the school along with the required medication.
My child has been diagnosed with an ongoing medical condition, what should I do?
Please come in and chat to the front office team or send an email and they can advise you on which forms will need to be completed and how best to manage your child’s condition. Alternatively you may want to discuss with your child’s classroom teacher.
Who is your before and after school care provider & how do I enrol my child/children?
YWCA Canberra is our before and after school care provider. YWCA provides care in the canteen area & school hall and provides care from Kindergarten - Yr 6.
Care is provided: 7.30am - 9am & 3pm - 6pm on school days

There is a school carnival, what are the house colours?
Galaxy - Blue
Nova - Red
Pulsar - Green
Quasar - Yellow
Can you wear your house coloured clothing to a school carnival?
Yes, you can wear your house colours to a carnival.
Where is lost property located?
There is always a large collection of lost property located in the front office. Please come and see the front office staff for assistance. If your child/ren attends before and after school care you may also want to check with the staff at YWCA.
We always consolidate the lost property at the end of every term and redistribute any lost items with names back to the rightful owner.
What do I do with my bike or scooter if I ride to school?
Hawker School has a bike cage where your bike and/or scooter will be locked up safely during the school day.
What days is the canteen open?
Currently the canteen is open every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for recess and lunch.
How do I order from the canteen?
Hawker School Canteen uses the Flexischools website or app which can be downloaded on a smartphone.
Once you have logged in you can set up your child/ren’s profile and complete an order. If you are having any difficulty please do not hesitate to contact the front office for further assistance.
Flexischools is down, what should I do?
Please contact the front office before 9.30am to place an order over the phone (02 6142 2660).
My child is having difficulties with friends and/or with learning in the playground/classroom?
We encourage all of our parents and carers to have open communication with the school. If you have any concerns please contact your child’s classroom teacher. If this is not appropriate, please contact the front office so they can direct your concerns to the most appropriate Executive teacher to assist.
