School Logo & Uniform

School Logo & Uniform

The school colours were selected to match the colours of Australia by the School Uniform Committee in 1975, prior to the school opening. The colours were suggested by the school principal Dr Al Leece as he was inspired by the fact the school was a show piece for Australia, being the newest and most original school at the time.

In 1976 the Hawker School board decided it would be appropriate for the school to have a logo. Parents, students and citizens were consulted but none of the logos were suitable to print on the school uniform. The concept for the logo was the result of school teaching staff working together with the students and incorporating many of the proposed ideas. Once the ideas were finalised, Tim Botsis, a classroom teacher, drew the final logo.

The centre of the logo represents the library with the five units placed around it, serviced by the administration area at the base. At the time it was suggested that the logo represented the ‘Light of Knowledge’, and the children also thought of it as a ship travelling through time and space.

School uniforms can be purchased through Workin' Gear & Lowes in Canberra. We also have a second hand uniform shop at the school where you can buy various second hand items. Please click here for more information regarding the school uniform shop.

Please note it is not compulsory to wear a uniform with the logo or have a Hawker School bag, these are just some of the options available. Gold t-shirts and green skirt, skort, shorts or pants are all suitable and can be purchased from major department stores.
