INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Opened in 1976, Hawker Primary School is a beautiful and unique learning environment in the ACT. Hawker has an open plan design which has the library at the centre of the school leading into spacious class units. The school was designed by a team of local architects and designers as an inclusive and flexible learning environment.
Situated adjacent to Belconnen High School and Hawker College and with a Preschool in the grounds, Hawker Primary is positioned perfectly for productive links with all sectors of ACT education. From the beginning of 2008, these three schools will officially come together to form the Hawker Collegiate. The Collegiate will be developed to provide continuous Preschool to Year 12 student pathways.
Hawker Primary currently has an enrolment of 255 students in 11 classes. Our curriculum offers a strong academic focus as well as a focus on creative and performing arts and sport. Other features of our program include:

Hawker Primary has an active Board and P&C and a strong relationship with the community in which it is situated. Parents have many opportunities to be involved in the school. Willing community volunteers are active in all areas of the school. The P&C runs a tutor program in music and speech and drama, school banking, a second hand uniform store, a book club and a canteen which is open 3 days a week.
