At Hawker School we enjoy high levels of parent involvement and support. Parents are encouraged to participate in their child's education and are always welcome in the school.
The P&C is very active in both fundraising and participation in decision making. The P&C run an Autumn Fair which is a great fundraiser as well as a wonderful community event.
The school also runs an active volunteer program. Parent and community volunteers contribute to the school in many ways, particularly in the junior home reading program. In addition to these formal avenues for participation, parents are invited to attend functions and special occasions at the school, or just to drop in and be part of our program.
Hawker School Music and Drama Scheme
A sub-committee of the P&C runs the Hawker School Music and Drama Scheme.
The Scheme provides tuition in Drama from Year 1, Piano, Violin and Guitar from Year 2, and Choir from Year 3. Please note there is a cap on piano enrolments.
The Drama Program is run on Tuesdays with the junior group (Years 1-3) before school and the senior group (Years 4-6) after school. Drama classes give students the opportunity to improve their performance skills.
The Choir (Hawker Harmonists) is a non-auditioned choir for students from Years 3-6 held on Thursday mornings between 8-8.45am. Veronica Thwaites-Brown conducts the choir and is a professional music teacher, choir conductor and classical soloist.
Piano, Violin and Guitar lessons are held during school hours. All students enrolled at Hawker School may take advantage of this scheme. Lessons are held at the school and parents are invoiced directly by the tutors. The P&C charges an annual enrolment fee of $30 for every student in the scheme which is payable through Flexischools.
Students can enrol for 2020 through the MusicBiz registration page.
For more information about the scheme, tutors, and how to become involved please refer to the Music & Drama Scheme Information Booklet: Music & Drama Scheme Information Booklet.pdf
